Phi Kappa Building Association and Phi Kappa Graduate Chapter Annual Meetings scheduled for July 25, 2026. The Building Association will seek approval of the following motion: The Graduate Chapter Brothers of the Phi Kappa Chapter of Alpha Chi Rho Fraternity authorize the Phi Kappa Building Association Board of Directors to proceed with a potential sale of the house and property at 311 E. Armory Ave, Champaign, IL 61820 in a transaction valued no less than $2.25M within 12 months following the day this motion is approved. The Phi Kappa Chapter Roll Beginning with its Chartering on May 30,1916, available records reveal a total of 1,197 Resident and Graduate Brothers have been duly initiated and not subsequently expelled into the Phi Kappa Resident and Graduate Chapters of AXP at the University of Illinois. An additional 12 Brothers were initiated at other AXP chapters, transferred to the University of Illinois and became active in the Resident Chapter. Thus the Phi Kappa Chapter Roll numbers 1,231 Brothers. Of these, 612 Brothers are presumed to be still living. However a number of these Brothers are among the "missing" and no doubt the number of living Brothers is lower. Sadly, every year, Phi Kappa Brothers pass into the Chapter Eternal. If you know of the passing of a Brother that is not already noted in the Phi Kappa Chapter Roll section, please send a brief note with the Brother's name, and when possible, the date of death and a contact address for the next of kin to illinicrows@gmail.com or snail mail to Site Administrator, 15806 Sorawater Dr, Lithia, FL 33547. Please include your name and phone number in case clarification is needed. Comments may be edited for length and content. To update the Chapter Roll, the Site Administrator maintains a contact directory of Brothers. Directory Information is frequently updated from public, Chapter and National records and individual updates. Chapter Roll Seniority Partially Recreated
With documentation available through 1971, partial Chapter Roll Seniority,
(Order of Initiation Into the Bond) of Brothers initiated into the Phi Kappa Resident Chapter has been compiled.
Starting with Brother Maurice Reed's (1) initiation on May 30, 1916, the sequential written records extend through Brother Ronald Balazs' (689) initiation on October 4, 1971. A Brother's documented Seniority is noted in parentheses after his name in the The Chapter Roll section.
To consolidate and verify the Phi Kappa Chapter records, the National Office's computerized records, available Garnet and White magazine articles, Phi Kappa Newsletters, and Phi Kappa Council Meeting minutes were reviewed. At least one Initiation Council was not recorded in the Chapter Council's Minutes Book thus causing some duplication of Seniority Numbers in the early years. The last recorded Phi Kappa initiation was on June 15, 2017.
Council Minutes Rescued, Archived Minutes of Chapter Councils 929 (9/7/1976) through 1047 (8/29/1983) have been found and digitized. The Minutes from Council 861 (11/1971) through Council 928 (9/1976) and Minutes of all the Councils held after September 1, 1983 still need to be located to complete the Chapter's history and the reconstruction of the Chapter Roll. Please look through your old papers and see if you have a copy of any of the missing Minutes, newsletters, photos or other memorabilia. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Phi Kappa's First Day
Chapter history starts a little after 10 AM on May 30, 1916 in a rented hall on the Illinois campus. AXP's National President, Van Court Carwithen, aided by other National Officers and Brothers from existing Chapters began the formal Institution of the Phi Kappa Chapter as the 14th Chapter of Alpha Chi Rho and the initiation of the Chapter's Founding Brothers. It was a day-long ceremony, requiring two initiation teams, and it wasn't concluded until after 7 PM. Then everyone returned to the Chapter House where the newest AXP Brothers hosted the Institution Banquet as their very first activity as a Chapter. In the first and oldest piece of Chapter memorabilia, we have the original Program, signed by the Founding Brothers and guests. The evening began with Maraschino Oranges and concluded with Cigars. Garnet & White Articles Indexed The Garnet & White (G&W) began publication in 1900 as a quarterly magazine of the National Fraternity of Alpha Chi Rho. A paper publication for most of its first century, it has evolved into a digital publication in recent years. Most issues of the G&W have been digitized and are available at: Garnet & White .
